Photo of my mother-in-law's christening gown made by her grandmother in 1910. The doll in the cabinet next to it is dressed in a dress and petticoat made entirely by hand using very vintage pieces of cotton broderie anglaise material, some of which is hand-embroidered. It seemed a shame to have it all in bits in a drawer so I dressed her in a circa 1910 outfit so I could display the fabric.

Beautiful! Viv,
and the doll looks lovely too...I love old dolls
it looks very much like my christening dress, made originally by my grandmother in 1896 (no I'm not that old VBG)her 7 daughters wore it, mum was the youngest (big ages gaps in our family) I'll try and photograph it and put up on my blog soon
That must have been such a joy to see a child in that, i can;t imagine ever having been in something so beautiful. How lovely that you have it, and can imagine the history.
